A day trader must be realistic about the amount of work, discipline, tolerance to risk and luck that is needed to be successful. Day traders will set limits of when to sell a falling or rising stock. The profit potential of day trading is perhaps one of the most debated topics on Wall Street.
Experienced professional day traders place bets on losers all the time, but they know how to identify losers and kill them quickly before much money is lost.
Professional daytrading typically uses indicators such as the MACD, moving averages, and Stochastics. Day traders rapidly buy and sell stocks throughout the day in the hope that their stocks will continue climbing or falling in value for the seconds to minutes they own the stock.
Any day trader should know up front how much they need to make to cover expenses and break even. Keep in mind a day-trader with a computer and access to the Internet already has access to a world of information. In contrast with other financial markets where you require the full deposit of the amount traded, in the Forex market you require only a margin deposit.
Advertisements for some day trading systems or advisory services make investing look like a virtual bonanza where everyone's a winner. Practice your day trading using a simulated trading system before using real money. A study in 1999 found that 70% of day traders lost money.
Day trading can be learnt and practised with absolutely no financial risk at all. The viability of day-trading methods does not negate the risk of trading. The key to consistently profitable day trading is having lots of different trades available. Be aware that day trading does not offer the protection of an advisor who can tell you whether a particular investment is suitable to your financial goals.
